Thank you @NianticBrian once again for joining us! Hope we'll be able to repeat this sometime.
the dialogue did not contain any specific information, only general phrases and slogans like those of politicians.
Quick question. What were your expections?
Personally I gained a lot from this communication and am grateful that @NianticBrian took the time to do it.
After listening to the whole conversation it's clear that he has ingress's best interest at heart and really wants it to succeed.
Yes there are issues in the client which were acknowledged and the team are working on.
As a community we can help with that rather than going "comms is effed" say "when I Select 5km it jumps to the oldest message, if I change to 20k it works fine" or something similar, give more colour to the problem.
There is a recharging bug right now, when you select a single resonator it surrounds it in a yellow box but if you click the plus sign to add a cube the box disappears but the resonator is still selected, in the scheme if things this is P5 S5. Yep it's annoying but it's not game breaking.
It was a fun watch. Thank you all for doing this. I learned a lot and gained a much better understanding of what Brian's job is.
The video is just over an hour and for those who'd prefer a condensed text version can read the thread linked below:
yes watched this last night, thanks to Brian himself and the IUENG crew who made this possible <3 hope too see more like this in the future from Brian himself its so importalt and nice we get some input from the producer himself. Like i would think many including me would want new avatars but if this means putting less resources by not fixing bugs like comm / link issues then it should wait i think. I hope they can pull of a global event soon this is what the community needs and would show that ingress can still do events otherwise we feel abit forgotten compared to pogo many oldtimers quit because if no events they have nothing to hunt but lets hope it all be good soon.
i think, for me personally, is there was a fair amount of talk about communication and how there is room for improvement. This sort of Q&A is great, but there are a number of people who never got any sort of conclusion regarding the ban wave, among other issues. Those sorts of things where a response is promised and then time goes on and things, just kinda get forgotten. Basically any other online game being updated has better communication than what we’re getting from Niantic. I was affected by the ban wave and keep going back and forth on whether I’d like to continue even playing the game.
I get they’re a small group of people working on and maintaining the game, but talking about things is different than doing things. Working with the community would probably benefit them much more than anything else they may or may not be doing. Seeing the PoGo community get to vote on their community days is a great example. Yeah, it’s a little superficial, but at least it feels like they’re really a part of the game. Over here in in Ingress land, we’re banned for a day or two and hardly get a sorry, if one at all depending on how you interpret their responses. The help people definitely didn’t apologize, quite the opposite.
Id love to see real, continued communication. I’d love for the relationship to feel more like a community and less like a customer. We don’t have to be happy about every single thing, we know bugs will happen, but it just feels like it’s been a downhill **** of losses vs wins lately. Let’s get back to moving uphill and growing the game and the community.
I expected not communication on general topics of several agents with Brian, but answers to specific questions posed by users. Certain questions from me and many other agents were not raised. Basically, the dialogue was on general topics that are convenient for nia. Nobody tried to figure out why our community is decreasing, and to draw specific conclusions on the air. There was not an ounce of analytics, analysis of the needs of ordinary users, and so on. But there was a conversation in the spirit, "niantik, you are so cute" or "we plan to develop the game, make it even better" ... I see how they have already done "better", in my country more than half of active players have stopped playing. They just say so the game is dead.
@ZeroHecksGiven Do you remember this thread from May? Do you feel things have gotten better since then?
I don't recall that specific post, but from what I'm reading there and feeling now, I would say that communication and overall connection we have with Niantic isn't any better.
On the other hand, I'm a PoGo transplant, so I don't have the history with Ingress that many of you have. So I think my frustrations with communication might be a little different than someone who is more "old school" than I am, but in the same vein.
I also know covid has really changed, basically everything in life, to some degree. So I want to give some grace for that, but even a major thing like the back to back ban waves we all read about or experienced, really seemed to get swept under the rug. I lost a 305 day sojourner streak because of that and my only response was, sorry, nothing we can do about it... I'm a little frustrated, especially when I seemingly did nothing wrong.
i haven't seen any evidence that form letters have gone away, that people who have been banned have been given any consideration or open communication from Niantic or even told why, that there's been any attempt made to tell people clearly why a portal edit or nomination is being rejected. All I see are the same form letters and lack of communication that there was before John made his post promising to be more involved.
I'm disappointed.
