I really doubt that a y game changes beside shutting it down would prevent people from playing it.

A real pro-quarantine method would be making the games harder, to the point of remove the will of going out, like 15 minutes between hacks, or 50km to hatch a egg, not giving actual bonuses and advantages of being outside playing...

I'm not demanding things be easier; see also all of my rants and ramblings against the drone feature. What I am saying is that this is extremely poor timing to remove double 8s, and it's going to seriously prevent farming in MANY regions across the country.

  • For the purposes of Covid, I don't see an issue with going back to normal.

But if Normal is going to be far fewer agents: Link

People do, however Niantic has shown the ability to allow users to play from home, and by removing said abilities before things are under control they could be held liable, they have been held liable for users in the past and this is really no different, in fact this is far worst, their actions could be seen as a deliberate attempt on peoples lives(not likely but idk how other laws work around the world, and clearly nor does Niantic), because people even where I live have shown clearly they don't care and they don't play Niantic games. Sure it's a game, but how willing would people playing a different popular game be to do something out of character for in game rewards? It's doesn't take many to hit the news, and who would be blamed? The players? No, the company is because the company stated to do something for players to get rewarded. That little blurb about following local laws doesn't absolve them simply because they are in the US and should know better.

Also Niantic is different from most other games as their games need us to play outside, for Ingress you can't really do that less recharging portals and hacking one portal via drone, for Pokemon Go (not sure about Unite) they gave raiding from home and community days. Now while the changes are not as bad as people took them they are changes that shouldn't have happened yet. If you read the first paragraph of the pokemongolive.coms announcement of changes to the bonuses it was so vague on about remote raids I along with others I'm sure where wondering if they where removing the attack bonus because they didn't state they where keeping it.

Why does this matter? Well like the potential removal of incense spawns from home (I tested it, it's now one every 1.5 minutes from 30-40 seconds) it could (still can) force people outside, now here's the problem, Niantic has to comply with all local laws they serve it's why if not in the EU you still get bombarded with cookies notifications because like websites Niantic is a internet based company, with international clientele. At the very least where I live it is illegal to organize events that hold more than 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors, see where I'm going? All you need is players from Pokemon Go to attend one community day at a park even social distancing but are clearly part of something and wouldn't you know it Niantic broke that law, because while they didn't organize the get together of those specific people, those people might not even do it deliberately either (then that will be whoever organized it fault as well as Niantics), they did however create and organize an event that could/would result in a potential large gathering exceeding local limits. Same with raids esp on a CD where a bunch of people outside might incidentally all meet up to do a Mega/5* raid.

Before you claim bull on my claim this is a direct quote from Ontarios website:

"Limits for unmonitored and private social gatherings across Ontario remain a maximum of 10 people for an indoor event or gathering or 25 people at an outdoor event or gathering."

Niantic regardless of game Ingress Go or Unite still falls under unmonitored gatherings, and the Ontario government was vague about it if even 26 Go players attend the same park regardless of size of land the law has technically been broken. Luckily for Ingress, FS is done via someone with an actual brain and is allowing us to still play from home. Now tack on the removal of perks amidst a second wave/spike in cases around the world (Ontario isn't technically in a 2nd wave yet but are getting the result from a clowns idea of allowing people to gather in mass just before school starts up again, tho that could trigger the seconds wave itself), so do tell me how willing would the local governments be in fining Niantic for every case of "organizing groups exceeding local limits" after they have shown the ability to prevent them, at least to their best abilities? (You can't stop everyone, but prevent most with perks) Luckily they just missed the bullet for raids in Go(esp when it comes to raid hours, before pandemic locally I could see up to 20 people or more), but it has yet to be seen how CD will play out with the incense changes, and yes they are liable because they have shown they where able to allow people to play from home successfully as well they are organizing the event themselves, while it is up to individuals to comply with local laws if Niantic wants to do a "Not me", then they shouldn't have removed anything.

Now before anyone hates me I play both Go and Ingress, played ingress back when it first started (dropped it for a few years, and forgot about it), and played Ingress including visiting the local city up till the pandemics lock downs happened, I play mainly Go during the pandemic because they made the game most playable from home (I do have plenty of gyms/stops/portals, I just lack Ingress players), also the reality is Niantic makes most of their money from Pokemon Go as well it is their largest player base. I found the perks for playing from home with Ingress not really beneficial, so why play?

they should do a virtual drone event, play safe from home and promote social distancing while still being able to play from home and maybe earn a medal, so no need to even go out and gather in groups.

  • Frustrated to see the Sojourner remote recharge go. I live with someone who's immunocompromised so going out when it isn't since February hasn't been a thing. And where I'm staying presently is a rural area with the closest portal well, well out of drone range.

I had hit 70 days and that streak died yesterday since I teleworked, on top of two times I'd gotten 30+ day streaks that broke even though I was making sure to recharge something morning and evening.

With a significant portion of the US being at their highest case levels ever, and many more states expected to be that way soon, plus EU countries seeing the beginning of a second wave, moving things back to "normal" was willfully ignorant at best. It reads much more readily as a lack of situational awareness in order to try to short-term boost profits.

My loved ones definitely aren't worth risking for a shiny video game medal.

  • Nothing Niantic has removed, has prevented you from playing Ingress from home, because Drones are the only thing that allows that, and drones are here to stay.

And no Niantic is not 'liable', because you are under no requirement to play. You have no requirement to breach any restrictions in the local area, and you are certainly not able to blame Niantic for any change in infection rates. It's a game. Dial back the obsession.

If your area prevents more than 25 people gathering... limit your gathering to less than 25 people. PoGo is not the question in this forum and there is no situation where more than 8 people are required in Ingress. If you have more people sign up, split in half once you hit 16.

I found the perks for playing from home with Ingress not really beneficial, so why play?

All the benefits Niantic is changing with Ingress are portal facing. Not play from home, except the Sojourner one which was put in place before Drones existed, as a stopgap measure. Deploy your drone, hack your portal.
