There are cell areas where people only play for MU scores, so even if someone takes down a field it can be that within the hour or two or even less the field is up again, then its a battle against who has most gas money and time and very few can compete against such players that only play for score cells and have near unlimited gas to drive with, very hard beat this if they have such system.
Ingress' primary drawcard for me is constant competition. PoGo is a collectables game, where you're 'competing' against a list. WU is purely a "do something" game where they've set high level requirements so that your "do something" is level based.
Ingress was a competitive game with unlimited emergent gameplay, before they even added level 9. I hit level 8 in two weeks, and level 9 didn't come out for nearly a year after that, but I never ran out of motivating things to do.
And with competition, comes teamwork and community.
That's the thing that's lacking now. Ingress has damaged the playerbase due to the Prime release and largely being left untouched for three years before that, to the point where the community is below critical mass. There aren't enough players, so players are less likely to remain, causing a snowball of retirements.
Prime needs to be cleaned up and the sharp edges honed off, and sure we need some hooks to reinterest some, but until we can get back to community based play, Ingress will never really recover. The pandemic hit at the worst possible moment for the game, but if we ever can get out from under it, the first agenda should be lots of small anomalies all over the world.
Don't make people travel across continents, or gather in numbers of 2000+ people. Lots of 200 person anomalies in cities across the globe would allow the game to to reinvigorate the community without forcing widespread travel.
I think the premise behind the Battle Beacon is to allow the local communities to have the free will to create a small event without "permission" from Niantic. That's a start. I hope they could give a support, like the fevgames does with the FS, allow players to organize small anomalies, like once a month too and provide the BB (automatically on pre chosen portals and time).
But random global events, like the redfection idea, is what is missing to engage the regular players, loners and underdogs and have something to do. I recently changed my faction, mostly because the lack is competition and to spice the things up a bit. Having a IA to compete against, along with rival faction, would be nice to see.
The game desperately needs a global challenge. I understand stay @ home is a priority. But it’s not stopping the other games in the fold from doing them. If a feature like scanning controller can be release without concern they can do a challenge.
Pogo and WU both have regular events that can be done at home or around their block. Ingress is quite different that the majority of gameplay requires travel, either across a city or country.
So when Niantic brought us Drones, I was like yippe, global events are on again
"What area are you in that your game play area is always covered."
If I answer this question then I get help from some spooffer that comes and destroys all the portals. Does it make the game any better?
No, I would rather play honest and say: "You won, I lost" and I try to find a game where the only goal of a good players is not to prevent a beginner from playing.
Pogo has raids where ppl need do together even with remote raids dont be naive thinking nobody goes out for events and Community days etc lol... Also hard to crack eggs from home.
Strategy game? Walk arround, collect itemd from portals and throw them away when get inventory full. I don't see any strategy here.
What do you think would happen to football if older players said to the juniors, "you are not allowed to touch the ball this month, but there are garbage bags in there, go collect garbage from outside the field."? Few months later there would be no juniors.

As @Perringaiden said, events are the power that keeps Ingress alive and thriving. And... we just don't have them. :/

Yes☹️ give us global challenges we havent had one in forever
- Recharging
- drone visits
Are 2 ways that global events can be done whilst in this pandemic

It's not weird when Pokémon Go and Harry Potter are more player versus environment (PvE). The events don't really rely a lot on player interaction.

Beginners could bypass the system and link under field, up to a ertain distance (microfield).
Neither of those would really interest me. Anything I'm recharging, I'm going to recharge anyway, and drones... meh.
Under current circumstances this would be the best options worldwide.
Ordinarily, I'd agree, recharging doesn't provide much value.
Drones have more options. Though I'm lucky enough in New Zealand and want to get out, however this isn't possible for many other countries.
For most countries there's no restrictions, at least not that severe.
Yeah there's a big difference between "Must remain within homes at all times" and "Pubs and clubs are closed".
There's very few places where your time outside is actually limited now. Or at least, *for now*.
Fielding under fields without rewarding MU seems like the easiest thing they could do for agents under permanent BAFs.
It's a start, but it doesn't hold a candle to the scope (and sheer _excitement_) of an anomaly.

Oh . Not good jukkajuu
@NianticBrian when will we have a global challenge or event? Why the other games have them but not we?
