An appeal from all those who are tired of the monotonous drawing of triangles year after
I doubt that anyone from the Niantik will read or comment on my words, but I will write it anyway. If any of the Vanguards reads this, pass on Niantik - let them pay attention. There are two types of players, but not blue and green. Two types of players with diametrically opposed views of the game. The first type is radical Old Believers who do not want to change anything in the game. And may these loyal players (who did not abandon ingress after switching to a new scanner) forgive me for my words.
There is another type of player (to which I belong) who are tired of constantly drawing triangles and want something new in the game. Many of us leave the game after so many years deeply disappointed in the latest updates. This "new things" we really miss. Most of us are even willing to pay for "something new". But alas, since the time of keylocker, there has been nothing radically new that would return interest in the game, and for which it would be possible to pay money. And yes, let those who want a free game understand me, but I also believe that in-game purchases should not radically affect the victory in the game.
Someone will say, but there are drones? Is this a novelty? Yes, this is an innovation, Hack of a remote portal through remote viewing, 1 time per hour without the ability to even get a key. A dubious innovation that many players do not even use and frankly consider "an incomprehensible and superfluous thing that can only be played for 5 minutes and forgotten for a long time", but certainly not a full-fledged multifunctional drone for daily use. What about Model 2 Drones? or 3? or 4? Where are they? When will they be and will there be at least some benefit from them? Will they become a daily use tool ???
Who knows who knows...
Let's take a closer look at the Combat Beacon? According to the latest videos posted, it looks like a fracker but with an accompanying minigame where the agents fight over the portal. Not a thing that attracts threats from outside to our world, or affects the result in the cell, but simply gathers a circle of people in order to spend weapons and modifiers in order to get a slightly increased drop of the same weapon and the same modifiers. Again, this is an innovation, as many players find it a dubious and useless thing.
But it would be possible to bring to the end everything that was mentioned earlier. Make local micro-manomalies that arise here and there (in random places based on the activity of agents), local and global shards on an ongoing basis ... Bring to the mind the concept of agent archetypes with their key features, the concept of MU, add interaction to the game as in magnus, to complete the recursion and make advantages for the agents who passed it, and add, if not the exogenous beings themselves, then at least their influence on the world. You can bring to mind, everything that was said from the very beginning, and the monotonous drawing of triangles would sparkle with different colors!
@NianticBrian why is ingress a collection of unfinished concepts and unfinished and even completely useless (from the point of view of many players) functions, and not a game that is at the top of the playmarket and gives you profit and a new and unique in-game experience for us?
Comments
we need new mini events, like mini anomaly/hexathlons etc,.. we havent got an event since 6 months that gives a medal now... kinda sad seems nothing happens except those virtual FS..... also many players have quit, look the google play store rating.. still a low 3.0 average last i checked.... i wish niantic communicate more what we can expect rest of year and later this silence is never a good thing in the long run for the community....
Niantic's handling of Ingress community is beyond frustrating. That's the main and the biggest problem for me currently.
Interact with community?
Ingress report?
Drone events?
Mini-events on COVID restriction free territories?
Developer updates?
Community manager?
For the love of God, answering on the forum threads???
Nope. Go away, speculate, draw triangles, see player numbers in your local community decimating.
Thanks for the Tessellation at least, that was great.
P. S. @GreenVam you are wrong about this.
Old Believers who do not want to change anything in the game.
The "old believers" just don't want the devs to do something stupid. Like hacking a key via drone would be.
@NianticBrian
Do you even read the forum sometimes? Here potential consumers of your software product write about shortcomings that potential consumers do not like.
@mortuus we need a living in-game world in which everything happens organically in accordance with the plot. And so, exogenous creatures can no longer get into our world, but Jarvis and ADA continue to broadcast about shapers. Or take at least the same screams from portals that are morally outdated, but they all the same come from each portal. The plot contradicts the content we see in the game.
Imagine that the actions of the players could lead to the occurrence of random events? Small anomalies would appear in random places on the planet, then here and there streams of shards would appear that would have to be delivered to certain places ... It would be wonderful, especially if it was supported by a plot. Well, if you are quite competent to approach, then you could organize a completely dynamic gameplay that would satisfy all players, and those who just like to walk slowly with a scanner and those who want action.
But this requires a living world full of confrontation, mysteries, the famous ingress mystery, new opportunities, and of course then we would pay the developers.
A wise old player once asked me - why should we do all the work for NIA? Recruit agents, explain to them the essence of the game, show that in addition to the scanner, there is also a plot, which is very poorly represented in the scanner. And it is presented so poorly that many players do not even realize that there is a plot in this game about drawing triangles.
What I see in my country. Now people come to ingress mainly through acquaintances, little comes through the playmarket, I don't know through advertising, probably no one at all. If in a small town with a population of up to 10,000 people, there were no agents 2-3 years ago, then they are not there now. And this is sad.
We need the global Challenges back.... Maybe with drones because of covid?
The first type is radical Old Believers who do not want to change anything in the game.
The majority of those people quit with Prime.
However, there are a lot of long term players, the most loyal, the most willing to pay for things, the most willing to travel for the game, who do not want to see 'flash in the pan' ideas that destroy the core game.
Frackers are an example of an idea that went bad. Glyphing damaged some of the exercise, but it wasn't until glyph output was increased and frackers became normalized, that the combination changed the game.
The game we have now, isn't the social game we had in 2014. It's been on a slow slide ever since the start of 2015 when they added Frackers and increased Glyphing output, then did nothing to offset those, for five years.
Making triangles is fun, when you have an opponent trying to stop you, social groups coming together to walk laps around 30 portals while chatting, and building into teams who cover entire cities or states with fields.
What we have now is the broken halfway state between one game and another.
Did anybody ever pay really attention to the plot or storyline?I have been playing for 6 years and have not spend more then 10min in total on the plot. If you play chess, do you need a story for that? It is a game of exploration, tactic and triangles of two sides playing each other. You do not need anything more. The game offers plenty of different ways to play the game already. Missions, banners, xfac events, global events, local community events, exploration, strategy, micro-fields, BAFs, Wayfinder, submissions, scanning, decoding etc. You really do not need anything more. The players who shout for more are likely those that always will need to be entertained without the ability to entertain themselves or others with what is available already. Chess has not changed in the last upteen years. And still keeps the dedicated players happy.
I love chess. and I love to play them. chess is a great game with many types of strategy. and how many types of chess there are ... for three and for four players ... but this is not a game of tic-tac-toe, which is ingress.
This is true, and most of people don't care about the plot, not because it isn't interesting, but because you have to research for it on third part sites, telegram groups, and youtube videos, etc.
The basic plot should be lend to us inside the game, trought missions and gameplay.
Drawing triangles is what this game is about. You don't get football players getting tired of the monotonous kicking of a ball towards the goal, or F1 drivers getting tired of the monotonous driving of cars round and round a track.
And yet drawing triangles is not everything the game is about. You can play this without drawing a single triangle. It can be about badges; about levelling up; about exploring; about your walking distance; about submitting and scanning portals; about missions and banners, or about any other thing that people do in this game to pass the time. For me it's now mostly about recharging, since the whiners won their 15% decay rate back.
@GreenVam .... if you consider either ingress and/or chess as tic tac toe - there is your first mistake. As starwort just mentioned, there are a myriad of different ways you can play ingress. certainly not like tic tac toe
no, this game is not about drawing triangles, but about the struggle for the fate of the world in which two sides are fighting for humanity. And what is there in any prolonged battle? The evolution of relations within the faction, the evolution of weapons, the evolution of the battlefield and the tactics of warfare used. And what of this has been in Ingress for the last year?
Where are the new types of victory? In World War II, such a refined example of a war for territories could be won by destroying an enemy general, stealing intelligence plans, skillfully capturing territories using the numerical advantage of one of the parties. And many players have ingress thinking like in football to drive the ball into the goal and that's it.
Nobody is stopping you from inventing your own story, invent your own new ways of winning, developing your own ingenious ways to improve your own team.
Just don’t expect others ... including niantic to develop that for you. At the end ... two colours ... triangles ... that is the game mechanics.
2x 11 players and one ball to stick to football. One set of rules. And yet there are a myriad of ways to win and play. But those ways are developed by those who coach and play. The rules stay the same more or less.
So you, and people like you, no one bothers not to use all the benefits of a game such as drones, bonuses to recursion, and so on. Play further in your triangles without using what will be developed after them.
Finally, understand that there are people who do not agree that ingress is a game similar to a friendly football match. They lack **** conflict, many lack the action of the James Bond films or the invasion of the Independence Day movie. Not everyone wants the game to continue in the same spirit and this is expressed in the 3.0 rating. Many of the new players who have played for over a year cannot understand why the game's updates are so poor compared to many other games.
@GreenVam ... in that case I would suggest you play the other games then. Or join an army, intelligence service or NGO who are fighting real world bad actors. That should provide you with sufficient adrenaline and action surely.
Again all you are expecting is for others (especially nia) to develop the action for you. You are expecting to be entertained. You are expecting others to invest the work for you to enjoy.
It is a free game. You want something action packed etc ... subscribe to something action packed to your liking. May cost you a few pennies like every action activity, action holiday or even a cinema visit will do. In a free game ... you are supposed to create your own action and adrenaline.
Agree with OP. When the original Ingress scanner was retired, promises were made. The new client and server backend would open up new possibilities to gameplay. Since this Prime upgrade all that we see in terms of new tech.. is a drone. Which is basically just 'remote portal view' but with hack possibility. In my few years of gameplay, I've seen a few events, and they were all **** excersises. Create x number of fields, destroy x number of fields. Rewards are slim at best - a badge in your scanner. (for me at least, I don't care much about them).
The plot might save things, but that is so uninteresting and badly acted that I count myself among those that didn't give it and hour of attention, in total of a few years of play.
When a game like this is left static, there's always a hard core of followers that will be most comfortable in the familiar routine of things, but the competition is murder, and people are bound to get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. I believe this has already happened to Ingress.
Indeed, have something happen. Create hotspots at portals, so they become interesting to visit. Bring shards into the game on local levels. Daily challenges, world events... Drone races, for all I care. Adjust rewards, so you're actually getting something for your 'work'.
And, it'd be nice to discuss this WITH Niantic at some point.
3* rating is not because of lack of plot or mechanics. It's fair enough rating of laggy Unity-built junk that we use as modern Scanner.
From the other side,Ingress become a bit boring thing. We all need something new,but imo "new" is NOT to make shields more useless(куда уж нерфить то) and bursters more powerful,NOT to make game a "pvp server",and for gods sake NOT to give drone ability to attack or farm keys.
1.open the playmarket, go to the bestsellers section. Take a look at how often top-rated leaders are updated, and see how much content the developers are introducing into the game with each new update.
2. I'll reveal a secret, those games are also free and you can win in them with the right strategy and active participation. And you can also support the developers by purchasing several items that do not greatly affect the game process.
3. Let's look at Pokemon Go. How many events and novelties do they have? What is the support of the community? This game is the absolute opposite of ingress in terms of both the richness of the gameplay and the power of the community. Yes, I will make a reservation, I am against the introduction of "Pokemon tricks" into the ingress, it will only ruin the game. But here the degree of interactivity as in Pokemon, maybe would help us even more to attract new players to the game.
On any mission day in my country, the same number of people come as in a large metropolis come to catch a rare Pokemon. And I live in Ukraine with a population of 50 million, in the center of europe.
@NianticBrian
See? I am not the only one who would like to discuss the situation with your software product.
There are many problems here, for example, there is nothing to do in the game if there is no portal nearby. But one could come up with something interesting so that it would be necessary to go to a random point on the map ...
It has already been proposed to introduce the spread of viruses through a portal network like Devra did ... but the administration does not want to improve relations with the players ... And hear us.
we need global challenges back.. i miss them and new badges...
Ingress game and community is not about quantity as PoGo. But quality. Open the app store. Looked at the best seller games. All of them are uninteresting if you like the real world outside.
If some people do not like the recent events which ingress had - go and play PoGo or HPWU with special events every 2 weeks. All of them I can play from my couch. For ingress I have to go out and explore. Plenty of fun already. Maybe another global event or challenge will come soon. Maybe anomalies come back in 2021. Maybe a NL van tour near you. Plenty of action and events in ingress. Plenty of changes over time. Cubes, capsules, lawsons, itos, softbanks. Plenty of new gimmicks which were introduced.
All those fantastic free games you mentioned, how many were already available in 2014? How many have got a global community for which people regularly travel to meet their game friends in far away places in the real world?
A lot of those other games come and go. Always something new. Always the latest adrenaline kick. Some games remain classics of their genre because they do not give in to the fast changes for short lived popularity. Real world sports have largely remained unchanged in their basic concept. Some rules get updated. Some equipment enhanced. Some skills get fine tuned. But at the end - the basic principle of those remain the same.
Community ingress should not turn into a narrow circle of gambling snobs. It should grow in the same way as in the same Pokemon, or even chess or football. But what prevents Ingress from becoming the same grandiose game that is known as other famous games? What's in the way? And I will say, devil-may-care attitude towards the game and the players on the part of the developers.
An example of this is the precedent with the translation of a client into Russian, which has been done for over a year.
We are in the middle of a pandemic, let's put off all the events until the entire world is able to play again. Thank you. I would loveif they made changes inside the game, but right now, you shouldn't be in the street right now.
It is a free game. PoGo has already dropped massively in interest and player numbers from it first release. The risk is that if you turn ingress into PoGo or similar you will loose the very backbone of the community which keeps playing the game for its simplicity and yet near endless possibility of being a very complex game.
If niantic turns into a subscription game with 10 USD per month or so - maybe some regular stuff can be expected. Or maybe better supported could be expected. But it is a free game. No expectations are justified beyond what you get.
While we are in the midst of a pandemic, niantik has every chance of completing a lot of the unfinished business in the game.
In my country, even the core of our community is already tired of playing the same game without change. Year after year, year after year ...
Nobody forcing you to play. Everybody plays for fun. If you are tired of the game or you no longer have fun doing it then STOP and do something else. As you mentioned - plenty of alternatives on the market to feed those people who constantly need a change and something new and exciting.
By the way...Malicious attack to network which is spreading randomly via links seems to be nice idea, both as superweapon (no codes at all, just VR hackable or premium) or as an anomaly thing. It can flip portals,or lower defence,or decrease output,or forbid links,or random increase decay. Ingress is not like PoGo or WU,we have only PvP with diffirent stats,so PvE/randomising stuff is also a good idea too.
Yes, and many of them surely have had to work really hard to improve the game, debugging and so on. I respect their efforts from their previous year, although the management wasn't as good as expected (spoofing for instance). On top of that, we are in August, many of their employees are on holidays, I guess they diverted their efforts into more profitable games rather than introducing new characteristics on Prime.
@ThreeCheeseTall
Did anybody ever pay really attention to the plot or storyline?
Yes, until they added the N'zeer and jumped the shark.
