To make drones more fun

Most people I talk to have had the problem where their drone gets stuck in an area where you cannot jump to anything within range and you end up going around the same group or portals or calling the drone home.

Could we make it possible to enable drones to move along links of your faction, so if you want to move your drone over a gap in the portal network that you are unable to jump to a portal normally due to the distance you can make a link and travel along it.

This would enable you to move your drone around the world, using the links to travel across water from one country to the next. Then if your drone gets stuck, you will be able to ask players in that area to help with some links for you to get moving again.

What do people think?

Brian has mentioned this as being a fun idea or something like that. I saw the comment on Twitter. Definitely would make it more interesting

I suggested this when they came out.

But to make it "more fun" requires much more detail of what in your opinion would be good gameplay for drones on links.

For instance the DarkXM collector (needs a better name)

Collect DarkXM per portal, and travel only by linked portals.

A portal is designated as the collection point. One for each faction.

DroneMK2 boost to allow a jump every 15min.

After say, 3 hours, the faction that collects the most DarkXM would be the winner

    Pass the parcel

Very similar to the Shard Game, but with drones, picking up an item from where it spawns, passing it to another drone on the same faction via the portal that it is on.

Taking all the parcels to a target portal.

Okay, so nearly exactly the same as the shard game

@Grogyan Oh, that sounds interesting. It would be tedious, though.

I would love to be able to pre-program several hours of drone jumps and just have it jump for me on the hour. Mapping routes for distance is marginally interesting, but the mechanics of doing it quickly become toil.
