If there was a tiered medal for Drone Flight Distance what do you think the levels would be?

I don't use IITC but you can find a link to the code on reddit /r/ingress.

Brisbane AUS has a max drone flight of 50km. My old home city of Townsville AUS is 14km. Unless the ability to fly down links comes in, I don't think having a badge tied to this stat is a good idea.

  • But several agents gets black illuminator in seconds, just exchanging keys and linking...

it would be strange to not ge ta medal for drones, why otherwise show the stats in our scanner?

I was in Seattle last week... I think I found a path that could get 55+ km, starting at a portal near Angle Lake station in Seatac, but only made it 8km before someone claimed a portal and the drone was returned.

I've since found a route to potentially get 100km, though, will require several key jumps. Starts south of Tacoma and ends in Everett. I'm hoping to get that started today.. My furthest is currently at 20km, done in Tacoma

  • I tend to agree with those who suggest that there's really no good/workable scale here. Anything achievable outside of Tokyo/New York/etc. is going to be boring/too easy for those who live in those metropolitan areas. Anything interesting/challenging for those players is going to be impossible for those who live elsewhere.

My general impression about the badges is that bronze is supposed to be pretty easy - just enough effort to make the badge show up. Gold is supposed to be doable by most players who put in the effort (though some of them require massively more work for those in rural areas). Onix is supposed to be wicked hard (i.e. actually challenging for those in metropolitan areas). But if Tokyo can achieve 100km in 13 days then there's really no "wicked hard" for those players without getting into impossible territory. And, at that point, do you wind up setting unreasonable numbers for the lower levels in order to get the scale "right"? Where I live, anything longer than 12-15km will be impossible if the badge is measuring "start portal to end portal as the crow flies". So, would that add a relatively easy Gold badge (if Gold was set at 10-15km) or a badge that is impossible to get higher than silver without visiting a metropolis? I don't really like either option.

It really seems like the "unique drone hacks" stat is a better one to base a badge on. You can choose numbers that will be challenging, and rural players can make incremental progress as they travel - pretty much the same as the two existing badges for uniques.
