Google Location Accuracy

Many agents report terrible GPS accuracy and do not know why. If you are having this issue, try disabling Google Location Accuracy. On many phones this will cause your location to be off by as much as 100 meters and jump around sporadically making any of Niantic's games practically unplayable. I just wanted to share this.

You will need the high accuracy service.

Unfortunately, Niantic have been really slow at fixing this bug where devices have ultra precise location, causing, only Ingress, player location to jump, not drift, hundreds of metres.

Have reported this as an issue for over a year now, and caused significant impact on tme scheduling for events, which had the bug been fixed promptly, would not have been an issue.

  • For about the 2 weeks I have been suffering heavily from this issue. And not just 100m, no I can be touching the portal and I will start teleporting around the map, between 300m all the way up to 1.2km away from my position. It can take nearly 5min+ for it to re-synch back to where I am. In all the years playing Ingress I've never had an issue this severe before, almost unplayable now.

In another GPS game not made by Niantic, does this also happen?

TWD Our World, Jurassic Park, and Draconius Go also happens. So basically any GPS game.

if it happens on other non niantic games then its your phones gps fault.. .i cant say that i have weird drifting in other non niantic games.. its in prime that i gps drift the worst... walking dead, orna for example gps is stable.. not weird gps jumping but in prime its really terrible sometimes u bounce around as if a tornado blew u away lol.... makes never any sense...

I have the opposite issue. I have odd gps drifts/jumps with Niantic games. But not with other GPS games. One thing I have noticed with it, is it gets bad in certain areas, like oddly, wide open fields in the middle of certain parks. Which makes zero sense at all.

If your issues is with all GPS games, like @mortuus advised it's your device or a setting on your device.

As for me,strange thing is when i connect to howe wifi (even without internet, using mobile data but connected) - i am located to my home. But if i will start using mobile data only i am moved +-500 meters north,so have to walk to window or outside to be located accurately. GPS config is self-made so got accuracy 2-4 m outdoors and no problems with that:)

Yes because Niantic have introduced this bug for what I can only guess is for their anti spoofing countermeasures.

Only Niantic didn't realised that more GNS satellites are up, Beidou and Galileo which enables sub 2m accuracy, at which point they cannot detect with that naive algorithm what is a real player, and what is a spoofer
