Sojourner tales

Share your tales as you attempted to gain your onyx Sojourner.

It took me three times to get my Sojourner. mad it to 90 days, then something like 130 and then finally the whole 360.

The first time i broke it i didn't really care as i'd only gotten that far due to plain enthusiasm to play and not actually paying attention to when i hacked ect. When i broke the 130 days i was devastated. I left work realising i'd forgotten to hack and hoped that i could still hack and make the 24 hours but i'd missed the moment and had to start again.

Within the period that i got the Sojourner, i remember Christmas day. I was blind drunk and after Christmas lunch i got my sister to drop my off 5kms away as she went home just so i could hack a portal. Believe me, that was a long walk home. Worth it!

  • I'm 6 days away... Not much to share yet, except I was really sick a couple months ago but still hiked my **** to the portal every day 😂

I got Gold and them forget it for a while, tried platinum and lost like 3 times on my days off the work, since I basically only played on my way to work and home.

But them I achieved it, and keep going until now, with double Onix and I'm intending in lose it at 777.

Being free of this chore will be a relief. After the wings, it's just a number, and I don't want to force myself to another meaningless goal.

  • My original streak, started when I started playing Ingress, is still going along. I started playing about 2 months after they started tracking the stat, so I'm always 60+ days behind.

It survived a trip to Mendocino County in northern part of California. Something (probably construction crew) damaged a fiber optic bundle that provides most of the Internet services to that area. They did manage to restore partial service before I arrived, so I was able to get EDGE/GPRS service and hack.

It survived a 3 day camping trip where there's no cell service. I had to hike about 3 miles round trip to the nearest town.

It survived multiple cross Pacific flights, including 17 hour non stop flights. Once I couldn't remember if I had hacked any portals before getting on the plane, and had a very nervous flight.

It survived a bout of flu, when I hobbled over to a nearby portal in bathrobes and sweats, hoping the neighbors were not looking out the window.

It survived Niantic, when they updated the map and caused the scanner to crash. I did manage to hack shortly before it happened, and they did fix it in under 24 hours. As I recall, Niantic made sure people didn't lose their streak due to that outage.

It survived the initial release of Prime, when some people couldn't log in, as I had suspended auto update and didn't pick up Prime automatically before Redacted was available.

Currently it is surviving because it's not a complete lockdown over here, and we're allowed to go out to exercise, and there are multiple portals near me (including the one I hobbled to when sick). Of course, with recharge for Sojourner now, I don't even need to do that. But I so look forward to my daily walk these days.

The main thing the streak is good for is telling stories such as this one.
