Garmin GLO 2 & Ingress

I've had massive problems with GPS accuracy ever since the Anomaly last year. So instead of buying a new phone, I wanted to try a Garmin GLO 2 GPS/GLONASS receiver, because they seem to be much more accurate than any phone. It requires the use of mock locations and a Bluetooth GPS provider app.

Whatever I do, Ingress shows "Location Inaccurate", even though I'm in the right place in the background. If I move around, it's also super accurate in Ingress and everything moves normally together with me. However, "Scanner disabled. Location inaccurate." will never disappear and I cant do anything in the game.

Am I being screwed by Ingress app security measures? Can I do anything about it?

You can't play Ingress with mock locations enabled. Even if they come from a dedicated device.

Sigh... great. Back to standing in the wrong place or drifting like an idiot.

  • Depending on phone and conditions, WiFi sometimes messes up location. Try turning off "Google Location Accuracy" if you're outdoors and drifting and see if it helps.

Thanks, but I've been through all that already. I even went to factory settings as a last hope, but nada.

  • A couple more thing to try (that doesn't involve buying a new phone).

    1. Try toggling Airplane Mode. Turn it on, wait 60 seconds, and turn it back on. I had some GPS issues after a system update recently, that for some reason that fixed it.
    2. Slightly more drastic: use a GPS test application (such as GPS Status and Toolbox) and clear assist data, and download it again. I did not have to resort to this. Note that it may render your GPS unusable for a period of time, and you may not be able to play Ingress during that time.

Good luck with the GPS issues.

GPS is fine in Google Maps. so that doesn't need further testing. It's failing exclusively in Niantic Apps on my Android device. I've got no problems on an iPhone, except that they're too small for my taste. :)

It's more of Ingress requesting GPS on the device. I tried to use Ingress on my Chromebook as it has Android and found out the hard way that it looks for GPS regardless of having Wifi enabled. (Chromebook doesn't have internal GPS)
