COVID19 and last updates to upcoming Ingress events
Niantic is still talking about "social distancing" when our governments are one by one asking us to stay at home with curfew mesures here in Europe. And it will be the same in US soon. In this context it's completly irresponsible to keep your game online and any challenge. We are talking about many many people dying in hospitals. In democraty, it's up to everyone to take their responbilitlies. Encouraging people to go outside even for a quick walk is criminal.

Absolutely. Thank you for writing it so I didn't have to.
The challenge has already been removed from the announcement
I wish the challenge and x2 L7-8 resos would stay, :(
All events are canceled even the global march ja...
The double 7s and 8s isn't exactly being responsible. In many places four people can't even go to a restaurant or pub for a farm (nor should they) because of them being shut down. Could a group of four even stand at least six feet apart from each other at a glyph spot and still reach all the portals? Just put free cubes in the store or slow down/halt decay.
Fully agree with both of you, brainless announcement.
+1 for free hypercubes and temp slow decays. Maybe increase duplication rate of qcap, items?
Maybe it’s enough for the gamers to tell what the company is doing, this nonsense has been going on for 7 years and what it has led to, that OPR is kept thanks to PoGo, and Ingress has switched to servers for **** people🙈🙈 Everyone will decide whether or not to leave him, there’s no curfew in the world announced, and fresh air was and remains useful. And stop being delirious because of this virus, 10 times more people die every day from a hundred other diseases and the common cold🙈🙈 The whole world.
@DestroyerTJ you may put your head in the sand and don't see nothing, but if our governments opt for everyone to stay home then in my eyes Niantic has to accept that and not reward agents with AP when disregarding that, not mentioning the risks for themselves and others. But if you want to continue underestimating the Virus please do it, but in some place where you cannot affect anyone else. Good luck
How can you say that and at the same time go out to make big field as i suppose you think won't be destroyed because of the stay at home advice.... so as your word say you're a criminal.
I think niantic should postpone globel challenge
Agree that the global challenge should be postponed. Also, free cube in the store, more cube acquired in a hack, or slow down/halt decay would be also helpful. Please do not forget Ingress is a game for people going out to explore the world and doing social. As a game company, it is not suitable to encourage people to go outside during widespread of Wuhan Coronavirus Disease.
If they want to make a global event, it should be of recharging, increasing the decay and increasing hypercubes and normal cube drops by hack.
they quickly removed it from that post.
First countries in Europe force people to stay at home due curfew. I think, slowing down or stop decay for a decent time should bei appropriate.
Best wishes from Germany...
So...... this is the original poster saying niantic is criminal to make people play but at the same time they are alone outside playing and breaking the law... Great move !
Haha busted.
lol busted @nomnomparis
BTW, what the heck with those MU 😨 to get those MU i have to create a field all over my city lol
Personally, I don't think they should have removed the possibility of a global challenge from consideration.
Before you start blowing your stacks and ranting about "encouraging irresponsible behavior", hear me out:
You can still do global challenges WITHOUT REQUIRING PEOPLE TO GO OUTSIDE. Case in point: the Decoding Challenges that have been running for the past few months.
Why not do something similar to that? Have a chain of puzzles released gradually over the course of a month, two months, however long it takes for the crisis to peak and decline, with rewards granted to the players who participate in it based on how many of the puzzles have been solved by the end of the event (and/or however many puzzles each player has individually solved).
Or, perhaps, something akin to what @Clawchi suggested elsewhere: a global Wayfarer event, encouraging people to stay home and review Wayspot submissions (perhaps with in-game rewards for doing reviews on consecutive days).
An wayfarer event awarding Gold for getting something like 1331 review points, could also count up approval points alongside the review. Everyone wins. More reviews more approval.
I said 1331 because it's a cool number and it's possible to do it in 10 days, during a event even faster than that, but maybe this one could be extended to more days, or change the goal.
100 for the first level of the badge, 1331 for the second, 3113 for the third?
