Hello, Agents -

A quick update on a few forum updates I’ve made today. They are, for now, mostly NIA/Admin only features.

Private Messaging: NIA Staff/Admins now have the ability to initiate messages with agents. Agents can reply to those messages but are unable to message others. This was enabled for situations where we need to ask for account specific information.

Signatures: Enabled for NIA Staff/Admins. I’m looking into tweaks and guidelines before enabling this further.

Promoted Content: We’ve added this module to the top of the forums to showcase content we think you’ll find interesting.

Polls: I’m testing functionality that comes with Vanilla Forums to see if it will work for some things I’d like to do. At an initial look, it doesn’t seem like it will but I’m going to keep it for now and try it out. Right now, this functionality is only available to NIA Staff/Admins and only in sections of the forums we’ve enabled it.

Dark Mode: Enabled for NIA Staff/Admins - kidding! I flipped the switch for all.

Edit: Regarding dark mode - I, too, see that some of the modules are still in light/white. I'll look into what was missed.

POLL BELOW

What do you put on your TOAST?

Hi folks,

I'm happy to announce that we have redesigned and updated the bug reporting process in the Ingress community forum. The category where you can report unexpected issues is now Report a bug.

The category itself has upvoting, which allows you to indicate if you are also experiencing the issue described by the original poster. The Niantic team can also update bug statuses and a status filter is available at the top of the category page.

Happy reporting!

As we count down the days until 2020, we wanted to recap the exciting things that we have been working on over the last year in Ingress and preview what’s to come.

We know that getting answers as quickly as possible is important, so we’ve expanded the in-app support experience to make it easier to get in touch with our team about more topics, allowing you to get answers without having to leave the game.

Transparency is super important to us, and while we can’t share everything, we’re working on revising our strategy for communicating known issues and are excited to show you what we’ve been working on in 2020.

Speaking of transparency, we’ve introduced the three-strike policy from Pokémon GO into Ingress and have been working on a number of improvements to how we communicate policy violations and enforcement.

The launch of Niantic Wayfarer was one of our favorite Niantic moments of the year. We worked hard to make the acceptance criteria more streamlined and comprehensive in advance of the global launch in November.

Building connections and sharing tips and strategies are super important, that’s why we introduced the Community forums for Ingress. In the 6 months since it’s been active, more than 25,000 players have joined us!

Finally, we appreciate our community of players so much and we’re delighted to be here to support you. We’re excited to continue to provide you with support in 2020 and beyond!

Greetings Agents,

Can you believe that it’s already been more than 6 months since the initial launch of the Ingress Community?! During that time, there have been more than 40,000 comments across more than 6,000 discussions. To the more than 25,000 of you who have joined us here, thanks for your lively conversations!

In the spirit of continuing to iterate and improve your experience, we wanted to provide an update on what we’ve already done and what we’re currently working on. As always, these suggestions come directly from your input, so please keep it coming!

Features Currently in Development

Moderation and Filters: One of the top pieces of feedback that we continue to see is that our filters are too strict. While we can’t share our list of moderated words and we can’t remove the moderation filter, we’re working on relaxing the list even further to reduce the number of posts that require review.

Game information: We know that importing in-game details like your Faction and Level into the Community was something that we promised before, and it’s still high on our list of feature improvements for the Community. We’re hoping that this will arrive in early 2020.

Recent Changes and Updates

Images: We’ve lowered the bar to move from Level 1 to 2 in the Community and now you only have to be a member for 7 days before you’re able to post images.

Edits: To better empower you to post high-quality content, we’ve increased the window for edits to 24 hours following your initial post.

Reporting Bad Behavior: Due to ongoing misuse of the Abuse and Spam flags, we’ve decided to retire those reactions. You can still report inappropriate behavior to us directly by clicking Flag > Report. We’ve also introduced a new reaction, Disagree, for when you want to express disagreement with a discussion or a comment.

Again, thanks so much for your active participation in the community and for being such valued members of the Ingress family. We’ll be sending out a survey to get more suggestions from you directly, so keep an eye open for that to arrive via email. In the meantime, please continue to share your feedback and requests with us so we can continue to improve this platform to suit your needs.

Firstly, thank you so much for joining and participating in the Ingress Community. We on the Ingress team have been blown away by your reception to the community. With that, we wanted to provide you with an update on the status of the community platform itself, including the things that we’re working on to improve your experience.

Features Currently in Development

As we mentioned when we first launched, we’re bringing a number of planned improvements to the community to help improve your experience. Here’s a brief summary of these changes:

Game information: Beyond just your Ingress Codename, we’re working on the ability to automatically transfer your Faction and Level from Ingress into the community and are discussing the benefits and drawbacks of displaying these automatically in your community profile.

Improved navigation: The current interface design is purposely very basic. We have a uniquely Ingress design, that is also much easier to navigate, that we’ll be introducing in the coming weeks.

Changes and Updates Based on Your Feedback

This community is a platform that we’ve built for you and we consider your feedback critical to its success. Here are some of the changes that we’ve either already implemented or that we’re working on that are based on your feedback:

Improved navigation: We’ve added additional navigation to the Announcements category and the Events, Portal Appeals and Ingress Insights subcategories

Revised moderation guidelines: Our initial set of moderation guidelines were intended to prevent abuse and spam but it quickly became clear that they were a bit too strict. We’ve revised them to find a happier medium between safety and speed of posts.

Return of AMAs: We know that @redsolocup’s AMAs were a highlight of Google+ and we’re bringing them back in the community! We’ll be tweaking this process to best suit the new platform and make it easier to navigate and read.

Again, thanks so much for your active participation in the community and for being such valued members of the Ingress family. Please continue to share your feedback and requests with us so we can continue to improve this platform to suit your needs.

Welcome to the Ingress Community! We’ve created this space for Ingress Agents of all levels who are interested in connecting with one another to discuss various aspects of the Ingress experience, from gameplay and events to story and support. We encourage you to be active in your discussions and share your experience and perspective with others.

If you need account-specific help, please submit a ticket through in-app Help or through http://support.ingress.com. While we can answer general questions about Ingress, we are not able to discuss account-specific issues in a public platform like this.

Here are some guidelines to help you make the most of your experience in the Community:

I. Avoid Inappropriate Content

We may review the content you create within the Ingress Community and we may remove it if we believe it’s inappropriate. Content that should be avoided includes but isn’t limited to:

Sexually explicit or pornographic content

Depictions of graphic or gratuitous violence

Obscenities, profanity or derogatory content

Content that promotes illegal activity

Hate speech or other content promoting hatred against members of a protected group (e.g. racist or sexist content)

II. Avoid Discussing or Promoting illicit gameplay or services

Ingress is meant to be played on your mobile device and get you outdoors to explore the world. Avoid discussions on using modified client software or unauthorized third-party software that violate our Terms of Service.

III. Treat others with respect

It’s in everyone’s best interest to keep things courteous and fun for all in the game, in the Community and in the real world.

Here are a few principles of respect to keep in mind:

Never defame, abuse, ****, harm, ****, or threaten another player.

Never violate the legal rights (including the rights of privacy and publicity) of others.

Never impersonate other players or Niantic staff.

Never expose players’ identities without their consent (“dox”). This includes any information about another user’s identity, including their name, phone number, email address or physical address, even if a player discloses that info first.

Be respectful towards other players. You can share an opposing idea without being rude or offensive.

IV. Don’t post unrelated content or Spam

This community is for Ingress Agents. Keep the discussions to Ingress-related topics. All posts that are solely related to non-Ingress topics will be considered spam and subject to removal and/or disciplinary actions.

As the community grows, there will be more and more resources available to resolve your question. If everyone uses the search box at the top of the page first, we can avoid repeat questions, many of which already have great answers.

Your Community account may be suspended or terminated if we notice unwelcome behavior.

Additional resources to help you stay safe

Ingress Community Guidelines

Niantic Terms of Service

Google Family Safety Tips

Family Online Safety Institute

StopThinkConnect - Online safety resources

StopBullying.gov

National Crime Prevention Council - Cyberbullying prevention tips
