Re: Dear Niantic, this game is dead.
Its not dead, its just a horrible change in the game that most don't like. I can't just randomly go to a park and make triangles. I have to spend time driving around the park to other portals to clear the red crapola that derps through the middle of the park before I can go walk in the park and play.
I don't mind if there is Machina. But it's beyond outta control. You can field around it, you can field over it. But even if you field where it's not, it will spawn and effing grow under your field. I really thought that wasn't supposed to happen. But it does. People are leaving the game due to it. Many are playing much less. There is less local MU on the board due to Machina. So, the core part of the game, you know the triangles aren't getting made.
I was really addicted to the game. Then the lagg stuff hit. Never really cleared up. I've done one recursion since lagg stuff hit. I really don't care to do another. I do play much less since Machina showed up. It's like playing against a spoofer. No sleep, no rules for it. It's really not that fun @NianticBrian I mean, is Machina fun for you to play around? Last time I looked in your hood, you were on portals a block away from L8 Machina portals. So I guess you aren't hitting them either. That or too busy promoting Niantic's other games. So, I guess thanks for breaking my addiction Brian.
They haven't advertised in forever. I thought that they were going to try to grow the userbase, but I really don't see that happening anytime soon without fixing some core issues in the game, and then spending some time/money advertising.
The one problem I have with those who used to play, trying to come back, is items for sale in the store. @ace once upon a time, stated big and boldly about not selling items in the Ingress Store. Those agents remember that. Others have come back and realized that every single sign in a park is now a portal and many times the same type of thing is named the same exact thing in their local parks. That seems to be a big turn off too. The amount of time they would need to spend to be able to go and just make triangles like they used to, even smaller ones is not time they have to waste (or expensive gas to waste).
It's not dead, it's just not the game it used to be. But it's also not the game most of us want it to be either. One day those in charge will listen to the agents, but by that time, it will likely be far too late to do much good.
And that EFFING SUCKS
Re: Dear Niantic, this game is dead.
I think we all agree that it has potential, but the level of spread, the amount of portals, an opponent that doesn't need to do those 5km walks, pay for access to the portals, can link all day every day, is not fun or engaging. It really does need to change.
How many more accounts don't log in daily since introduction of machina? How many less resonators get deployed, how many less fields of all size are being created? Niantic have these numbers and they should be alarmed by the decrease. Whatever plan they had it hasn't worked at all.
Re: This is the worst year of Ingress
People have been vocal. Machina is too aggressive, without players it takes over areas and never decays. Anomalies coming back is a good thing but unless you live near an event you don't get to participate. It's become too monotonous and everyone simply just got bored. I'm not sure Ingress is their focus, they want the next big thing and have ignored this game. The second Sunday event is the exact same thing every month. The game needs players, new events, promotion. Bring back the old scanner.
Re: Machina Portal = Dead Portal
How would you resubmit them? They would still exist in lightship and used by other games so would be flagged as a duplicate.
Re: Machina Portal = Dead Portal
Let's just come up with a better way for you to deal with your Machina issues. If you are just concerned with bad portals, delete them.
[2.123.1] Portals on the ground cannot be scanned (rejected by quality check)
Posting on behalf of @Blasse
Update 2.123.1 introduced the newest Lightship ARDK which comes with a quality check for scans before they are uploaded. Generally I support that, but it seems like it's not tuned perfectly yet.
Portals that are on the or embedded in the ground seem the most affected as the quality check believes the scan is just a lazy "I'll point my phone towards the ground while I walk" scan, even though the scan attempt is genuine (example in video above).
If possible, some tweaks to the quality check would be great, otherwise a lot of portals wont be able to get scanned anymore.
(Fair is fair, it might be that the check detects the feet in the scan and automatically rejects it, the scanner still says that it cant detect the target though)
Version 2.123.1 crashing on cubot R19
Seems 2.123.1 crashes on start on my cubot R19. 2.122.2 works fine.
Phone: Cubot R19
Android: 9.0
Network: Wifi
Phone and ingress Language: German (I'll give the english terms below)
Starting like:
- shows black screen with white niantic logo
- shows ingress prime logo ('headphones recommended')
- shows moving triangle in the upper right (that was in the middle of the screen on 2.122.2)
- 'Ingress was ended'
I already tried:
- clearing cache
- clearing app data
- tried another cubot R19 (don't have another supported phone atm)
to no avail.
Removing 2.123.1 and reinstalling the apk from 2.122.2 works around it. The older version starts and runs fine as far as I can see.
Re: Dear Niantic, this game is dead.
There's a few full time players left that are addicted to the game and can't stop. But otherwise the game is dead. There's no fielding, no strategy, no team. New players don't exist. There's no point in recommending the game. With the other gaming options out there many have found that Ingress just costs too much to play. It's turned into a driving game and nothing more. I personally like the machina as it gives me something to do and they won't chase me down in real life. But not everyone agrees. In my area I don't think it's contributed to less players since really there are only a handful as it is. The game needs something because right now it's dead.
This is the worst year of Ingress
Starting with the lack of global events accessible to everyone (apart from first Saturday and second Sunday, which are no longer considered events but rather a monthly routine).
An indie game has more monthly events than a game like Ingress with 11 years of experience.
The pay to win system, now you no longer need to hack millions of times to get a precious jarvis or ada refactor, or a softbank ultra link or hypercubes... EVERYTHING can be bought in the store. Kinetic pods ruined the concept of hacking for rare and valuable items.
The number of premium medals was 20 times higher than the medals earned from playing the game.
The implementation of the creation of fields within a larger field ruined the concept of fighting not to be covered by a large cape, of mobilizing to lower it and be able to play again and compete against the enemy faction.
The First Saturday codes are excessive, the hypercubes aren't worth anything anymore, I have close to 400 and I don't need normal power cubes anymore, one code gives me 25 hyper cubes, it's totally crazy.
Machina has benefited cities where there were one or two players but it has made hundreds of players leave the game who are annoyed by the links they cannot make. In the anime we could see that Machinas could make fields, at least that would have been better than just seeing Machina making random links.
And finally the price increase on subscriptions, which is not justified by the little attention they give to the game, the player base and the updates.
Possibly if I start to think more about the game I find many more things to add. Ingress has given me many years of fun, and to see it die like this, without the company even caring at all to promote it on their instagram "@NianticLabs" is incredible. There is not a single publication referring to ingress, but there are publications and stories referring to the game that failed in the NBA.
Every day I see less future for this game, if users raise their voices late they can see it die before being able to do anything.
Re: Ingress 2.123.1 Release Notes [Discussion]
Why the hell does it need to be ported to consoles? It's a GPS location game...
