Goodbye scanning, goodbye CORE
I was a scanning addict. I confess. Ingress was becoming stale for me after I achieved onyx pioneer and explorer, but scout controller got me back out there, visiting new and old places to scan everything. As far as I'm aware I was the first resistance player in the UK to get to onyx scout controller, and until recently I still had the highest number in the UK. There are whole towns which don't have a single Ingress scan except for mine. It was a game feature which kept me engaged with Ingress, and was a major part of how I played the game.
This summer I bought a new phone. Not a high end flagship phone, but a comfortably middle of the road phone. Soon afterwards scanning was unavailable on it, and it was only after a considerable delay that we were even told why this happened. Suddenly, one of the major factors that kept me exploring was taken away from me, with no warning and no explanation. When we finally were told about the changes to the hardware requirements my first thought was simply to quit Ingress. Instead I decided to end my CORE membership which I had maintained since the beginning, and was an advocate for in my chats.
This was quite a sad decision to make because I have always said that we players should support the continuation of the game we love and play so much. We spend far more money on things like travel and swag, so I argued we ought to be willing to give a bit to Niantic. However, the removal of a major game feature was too much for me, and I am no longer willing to give Niantic my cash.
Re: A Case for Shutting Down the Game
3 per 200k population is what I'm seeing as well. Niantic probably sees a lot of backpack accounts so they probably think the game is super popular still.
Re: A Case for Shutting Down the Game
I love bread. I regularly brought it to the local supermarket. The bread maker regularly spoiled me with Easter cakes for the Easter holiday, and for my birthday or the birthday of my neighbors, I could always buy a delicious cake. The baker regularly updated the assortment of bakery products. And what was most popular was produced with the best quality.
But now, at the enterprise producing bread, they changed the chief technologist, hired a specialist for public relations, and generally restructured production. As a result, only two varieties of bread were sold, wheat bread and rye bread. Wheat bread began to be sold rotten, due to which the next day it was covered with mold and rye bread was unpleasant in taste. My favorite croissants are gone. Cakes began to be produced only in one standard pattern, and I decided to do something about it. I wrote to the hot line of the bread factory, they also hired a community manager, which they themselves announced in the press. But the community manager did not answer, the chief technologist was silent on Twitter and did not comment on the quality of his bread.
Since I have no other sources of bread nearby, I have to continue to eat what they give me.
It was an allegory for our favorite game.
Re: Upcoming changes to First Saturday as of January 2024
IFS was always a physical event. The virtual setup was always a temporary thing. You are still able to do virtual events but it won't count now. I kind of wish this was done sooner.
There is so much leeway to get a physical IFS setup now compared to pre-covid. There's really no excuse at this point.
EDIT: For the people disliking, this is one of those times to provide a response on why you don't agree, to provide some insight. (don't know if Fev Games will be watching this thread)
Accepted wayspot never made it to Ingress, despite there being no portals within 20 meters
Wayspot title "Purple Coneflower," location 39.282288 , -76.600439 was accepted on 5/18. It is now 5/21 and it still has not shown up, even though things accepted after it have. The location coordinates that I submitted perfectly match the coordinates for it in the Wayfarer app so the location was not changed upon review. The closest existing portal is "Bug Hotel Informational Sign" (location 39.282287, -76.600048), which is over 33 meters away. There is a closer wayspot in Lightship but it does not appear in Ingress, only Pokemon, so it shouldn't affect my submission appearing in Ingress. What is going on here?
What are some efficient ways to kick out cheating users?
I been a consistent poster on that forum as well.
This user is still playing there today with a large number of accounts.
As of this moment, the number of accounts this user has continues to grow by the day, with a steady stream of accounts containing (expletive) agent names from both factions.
Of course, we know that the best way to do this is with the help of our support team.
However, the responses I always get are so canned that I wonder if they've done any research since I contacted support.
Again today, we saw this user using multiple accounts to create items and then transferring them to their own account.
I wonder how long Niantic will allow this behavior to continue.
At the very least, shouldn't these users be managed intensively?
If you look at Intel maps and see the same account and multiple accounts at certain times every day, it's suspicious even to a casual user, but moderators ignore it.
Intentionally removed portal
Opposite faction keeps removing legit portal, this happenes 5-6th time already. Portal has safe access and does not violate any rule. It had overclock enabled, and it got delated within a day, for no reason.
I see this as a clear wayfarer abuse, all done (I suspect) via pokemon GO accounts, so nicknames are not shown on portals.
I can send more portal related data, if necessary.
Portal name: Tabliczka Aleja Wilanowska
Location:
Google Pixel 8 Pro - not in Niantic approved list for portal scans
Newly purchased Google Pixel 8 Pro does not appear in the approved list for portal scans. It has ARCore but unable to scan.
Are there plans to include the latest Pixels in the approved list for scanning?
Thank you
Re: Please support filing proof-of-presence data in game to discourage unfair gameplay
Just... no. Absolutely not. No player is required to provide proof of presence to anyone else. If this is done by some communities it is by common agreement. You cannot enforce this.
If you suspect someone is spoofing, report them and move on.
