Re: STOP MACHINA, totally lost control (again)
Wasting fuel, wasting fuel, wasting fuel...
You are wasting fuel on a mobile app with or without machina. If you stop machina is really doing someting good for the enviroment.
[2.125.1] Storage permissions were removed, Scans and using photos from storage impossible
After updating today, I was greeted with this message trying to scan a portal. I was surprised as I didn't remove any permissions for Ingress, and after checking against 2.124.2, it seems like the newest update removed the storage permission for Ingress, making it impossible to enable and to scan.

After:
Crucially, this is a different bug compared to the other one where previously eligible phone suddenly had the "Scan Portal" button vanish.
EDIT:
This also seems to affect trying to upload a photo you previously took for Submissions or for a new portal picture with the following message:
The title of the bug report has been adjusted accordingly.
Re: I miss Machina!
@mortuus I think that one of the values of Machina is to give people in low-activity areas something to do.
Re: If you don't get rewarded, why keep score? I am once again asking...
That's because RES opted to make that a priority, and ensured that all their players were moving around the playbox on a route that would maximise unique hacks.
Once again, sour grapes. Not conspiracy theories. Just sour grapes.

Charleston - GoRuck - Missing Badges
I will start off by saying that I participated in GoRuck Stealth and Urban at the Recent (Aug 19) Charleston, WV Anomaly.
Our team (Res) had a strong outpouring of agents for both Stealth, Urban, and OCF. Some agents have yet to receive badges for Stealth (one person), Urban, and OCF (most missing).
All (RES) agents had their QR codes scanned
It was made aware to NIA that we were missing all badges still about 2.5-3 weeks post Anomaly. NIA was able to retrieve some information for Stealth and Urban. While NIA needed to get in touch with GoRuck about OCF. This lead to the Stealth badges being pushed after about 3 weeks for most agents (RES). The OCF took a little longer, NIA received some info from GoRuck and pushed those badges. But that information was incomplete.
The run around currently is that NIA points to GoRuck for the missing information while GoRuck simply will not respond. We were given a contact at GoRuck, and 24 hours later still no response.
My purpose of this post is to highlight the disconnect that can occur between two entities. Right now, there is no path forward for those agents who took it on themselves to participate in an event that they understood would get them an in game badge. There needs to be more communication about these events and what's expected of the participants from NIA.
Hopefully we can get this sorted out, but it's going to be a thorn in the side of those who participated and did not receive credit.
Cheers.

Hindsight and all that, right?
I'm fairly sure ENL thought they had Chicago as a certain win, and decided to use the Lens in Amsterdam to try and win the portal capture game. That's really not suspicious.
There's also a difference on the other two awards (Carrie's Journal and Hank Johnson's presence) . The Journal awarded Intel to ENL only.
Hank Johnson's presence spawned media on the surrounding portals, and wasn't limited to RES-only. ENL could also hack that media.
It was RES ingenuity that made the most use of that award to benefit RES and limit the benefit to ENL. RES also coordinated the use of the Lens more effectively.
Overall, sour grapes is what you have there. RES outplayed ENL in Chicago, devising and implementing a strategy to make to the most of the awards they had available. It required EVERYONE'S buy-in. The strategy alone would be useless if the agents on the ground didn't employ it. And it paid off.
Re: Kobe Anomaly Meetup Q&A (September 17, 2023)
Answer to that first question sigh. Is Brian paying attention to the forums at all? Does someone else at least give him reports?
I miss Machina!
I know it was problematic for a lot of people and I understand why... the implementation wasn't great.
The flip side is that I was enjoying it tremendously. There was very little around my home but I'd managed to turn the town around my office into a well-tended Machina garden. Each day on my commute I'd take out a couple dozen red portals, leaving enough behind that it would grow back so that I could harvest some more the next day. Hunting it down also pointed me toward unique caps in areas that I hadn't explored, or newly-created portals that I'd overlooked... double onyx isn't going to pioneer itself. I also had fun on road trips because I would target towns that had an overgrowth of red and clean a lot of it out as I passed through.
I hope it comes back soon, albeit in a less problematic form. It gave me something new and interesting to do and I enjoyed that aspect of it.
