Re: The forgotten drone
Ingress is just an app for proof of concepts at this point. A real life working app that Niantic can show investors how well they've brought ideas to life. I think the drone was a quick fix related to the pandemic, but like many other "features" inside Ingress, set aside for the latest and greatest "feature" that will bring back all the OG players that quit when redacted was officially dropped.
It's a bummer they more or less abandon some of these features because I really think fine tuning something like the drone is something that could help keep agents like myself engaged at different parts of the day when they're not able to be outside. At this point, the drone really still feels like it's at a beta release level still :/
Ingress Insights - New Podcast
After mentioning it and mulling it over since probably June, I decided to sit down and ramble about Ingress for about twenty minutes.
I will look to continue doing so every few weeks.

It is only just starting off but there will be another episode today and then one in a few weeks. Thanks if you do listen whilst it’s bumpy and things aren’t perfect as I learn what I am doing. Happy to have folks from here on the show to chat Ingress too so it’s not all just me.
Re: Ingress in 2024
Some possible ideas :
- Ability to reorder ingress character medals (or middle ground will be to pin up to 6 badges on the top row to showcase profile)
- Intel website/Mission creator website layout refresh (It's still showing redacted interface even though we have moved on from 1218 for like 5 years, Also we have new actions like scan portals/overclock portal which can be introduced in mission creator )
- Better way to allow agents to search missions by series (Something like NIA filter tag but agent can search by a certain series or a certain mission creator)
- New avatars for scanner (The archetype series is still incomplete and the last avatar we had was Aerodyne from 2021)
- Scanner skins to customize the interface
- New global scoreboard mechanics (Other than MU, things like player daily actions should contribute in scoring)
Ingress in 2024
What do you expect? What do you want?
We already have some Anomaly dates:
On XM Anomalies 2024
NIA Researchers have detected XM signals indicating Anomalies on the following dates:
- 17 February 2024
- 16 March 2024
- 18 May 2024
- 15 June 2024
However, none in January or April have been announced. Do you think we will have them or have some Anomaly-less months? I’m okay with that.
For 2024 myself, I’d like to see features finally fleshed out and finished.
- AgentOps - I know many link a task based system to Pokémon GO as it’s another Niantic title and they have it there. However task based systems in mobile games have been around for ages and doesn’t indicate that Ingress is becoming Pokémon GO at all for me. I’d love themed monthly tasks which would take time to do and offer some nice rewards (maybe even CMU in some cases?) and then once sorted and running well, we could look at Paid AgentOps. Pay £5, get special tasks, complete them and get a badge. This would help those who want to feel like they earned the badge rather than forked over money for a badge.
- FitRep - Now to counter everything I just said about Ingress not being Pokémon GO. FitRep is pretty pointless right now. In Pikmin Bloom & Pokémon GO, I get rewards based on how far I walk (group challenges for Pikmin Bloom & individual distance for Pokémon GO). Ingress is also meant to encourage me to get out and explore (“Time to move Agent.”) so it could give the little push with FitRep rewards which were mentioned during Q1 2022 and then forgotten about.
- Friends - Recently, Niantic has been all about “parties”. In Monster Hunter, I can form a party with Friends battle monsters. In Pokémon GO, I can form a party with Friends and do challenges which get all of us extra rewards and greater damage dealt. In Pikmin Bloom, I can form a challenge and see who walks the most & work together. Friends system on Ingress exists but isn’t used at all. I have a few ideas for Ingress but a Party sounds like a good idea to me as well. You can already boost up a Portal with a lot of Agents, but I am thinking of attacking. For example, you go out and gather up some other ENL, and form a party in game. Then your weapons do extra damage to Portals, perhaps even being able to sync up your XMP blasts to go at the same time. Then you get rewards based on number of Portals claimed or resonators destroyed etc.
It goes without saying that I’d like to see lag sorted too. As for some other rambling thoughts.
- Level 17+ please
- A reason beyond bragging rights to recurse (maybe 17+ needs one)
- Duplicating keys (sell Very Rare KCaps that do it, I don’t care)
- Months with events beyond the usual FS, SS stuff (will be an especially bare month in January/April if that’s all we have)
Anyways, I think that’s it from me.*
*I should add an addendum that if there’s a few responses I’ll probably read a few out on the podcast (probably for the 25th December episode). If you’re not cool with that, please do say.
Re: Haven't got the Paragon Medal
Hi @mrbrunet - to be eligible to receive the medal, you must actually open the Scanner and play the game. Redeeming a passcode can be done without opening the Scanner and is not in the spirit of the game. As you did not actually play during the 1-year timeframe to be eligible, the medal was not assigned.
Link Length Under Fields: I propose a compromise
It appears that linking under fields is here to stay but I have seen some differences of opinion on just how far under a field an agent can link.
I propose the max link distance be 1km under fields but make it so the max link length can be modified by link amps with the same multipliers applied to portals not under fields.
The reason I think this is a good compromise is that it makes longer links achievable without a special event but also make it resource intensive to use the feature constantly.
This also restores a lot of value for rare link amps that had been lost since softbanks became available.
Re: C.O.R.E. Subscription Price Change [Discussion]
As no further details are being provided, on why the increase is that high and if there are plans on an alternative than the in-app subscription via Apple/Google, I’ve now decided to cancel my subscription until this is resolved!
I really wanna continue my support for Ingress, but atm I really can’t afford to pay almost double the price. Many other goods and services got their price increased, too— but not 82%, not even when compared to prices in 2019 (before Covid) 🙄
[Edit] I had to pay in EUR and I’m not up for a subscription fee of 9,99…
Feature suggestion: "No Items" glyph
How about a glyph we can enter during the channel open screen to request no items but give a bonus on AP. That way we can still glyph hack when the inventory is nearly full to still get points.
