Re: "Claim 1 Kinetic Capsule Program" is a horrible bounty
Most people can walk 8km
If you save up your kinetics, you can often just not walk very far if at all, because over the course of a few days, you will have raked up the 8km
Re: "Claim 1 Kinetic Capsule Program" is a horrible bounty
I agree that it's not realistic to expect any player to walk 8 km on any random day. If there were no option to keep completed programs for future claims, I would also vote for removing this bounty.
That said, finding the right balance is tricky in areas with different portal densities and player activities. For example, what's faster: claiming a kinetic program or finding several high-level portals to get glyph hack points? Moreover, should all bounties be equally easy, or should we have two easy tasks and two more difficult ones? As long as we don't have to maintain streaks of fully completed days, it's fine to leave tasks unfinished. To me, it's more important to have no FOMO from incomplete tasks than to make all tasks doable in 5 minutes.
Re: "Claim 1 Kinetic Capsule Program" is a horrible bounty
Personally, I like the kinetic capsule bounty because it is the only one that requires a real effort, or decision-making (if I claim the KC today, I may miss out on the bounty tomorrow).
If you are lucky enough to live in a city with good public transport (and want to spend the money), you can also complete your KC on a tram or bus ride, without walking.
AFAIK, the mission bounty was not retired because it was deemed too difficult, but because of agents who strongly prefer six-mission "banners" to single missions.
Re: Ingress website gets a cosmetic makeover
Maybe this is something that is leading us towards the conclusion of the Cryptic Memories series.
Perhaps an actual story arc like we used have would be fantastic
Re: “Buried Memories” is the name for the Q2 2024 Anomaly series
I think it's a terrible name. They want us to bury our memories of Ingress? They want the anomaly to be a tragic experience we'll want to bury? Do we need therapy to deal with our Buried Memories? It's like it's named "Bad Memories". Even "Deceptive Memories" would be better than "Buried Memories".
How about one of these:
- Shared Memories
- Sharp Memories
- Making Memories
- Unforgettable Memories
- Cherished Memories
- Making Memories
- Cultural Memories
- Reflective Memories
- Fond Memories
- Positive Memories
- Landmark Memories
- Sweet Memories
- Happy Memories
- Reflective Memories
- Recalling Memories
Or something that makes you ponder in a sci-fi way, like "Forgetful Memories" or "Imaginative Memories".
Re: Extra key capsules
I think all agents should get a free key locker for every 100 PORTALS DISCOVERED. I'd get 4 and be halfway to 5!
Niantic wants us to pour our hearts and time and creative abilities (photography, writing, mapping) into creating Wayspots for their games (to make money). All that effort brings emotional attachment to our creations.
I used to enjoy making big layered fields. AND I enjoyed submitting great portals. These two loves conflict. You can't keep both.
Re: Extra key capsules
Ingress is a strategy game, this unfortunately means, making the most of the available inventory space which is of itself a strategy.
The only exception to this is when it comes to an Anomaly and you cannot recycle your tactical/souvenir keys
A time locked capsule to hold excess keys for 7 days would be handy, ie once you start it the items within it are locked for 7 days in that capsule and do not count towards your inventory count.
At the end of 7 days, the items return to your inventory.
But this is a niche scenario
Re: [Suggestion] Showing Battle Beacon Victories
There are areas that have zero competition and fields stay up for months if not years at a time. When all you have to do is recharge a few portals for months at a time to keep the score then what's the point? The scoreboard doesn't reflect actual activity. Stagnation gets rewarded every cycle. There has to be a different metric to motivate players. MU isn't motivating anyone. If anything it's making sure fields never drop and nothing new ever happens. And yes more players would help but that's never going to happen without advertising. Ingress is at a stalemate.
Re: [Suggestion] Showing Battle Beacon Victories
The reasons for many players at not being interested in the score;
* Is when one faction just dominates time and time again.
* No rewards for winning septiycles or awarding the highest MU earners
* Local play has no value to the overall score
My idea is to use Battle Beacons to drive the local scoreboard.
In that I mean, at the end of the first Checkpoint of a new Septicycle, the scores of all Battle Beacon Victories, or overall Battle Beacon points drives a multiplier for MU for the week, not carrying over to the next Septicycle.
Battle Beacon points for the rest of the Septicycle will accumulate and carry over to be scored at the first CP of the next new Septiycle.
Example
Resistance score 59 points
Enlightened score 71 points
With up to a 200 % multiplier (example only) for grabs
Then
Resistance score 90.8% of their MU
Enlightened score 109.2% of their MU
All MU for the rest of the week gained by players would be multiplied by this depending on their faction.
Rewards need to be issued out to the top (5?) players for each Faction with Very Rare Battle Beacons and maybe other things
3 for 1st place in your faction
2 for 2nd and 3rd places
1 for 4th and 5th places
The Ingress team also hinted last year about Machina scoring MU too, although I reckon this is mostly bad IMO.
Battle Beacons were meant to have a more meaningful player experience, and like a lot of new features added to Ingress in past years, never fully finished.
The scoreboard in Ingress was brought in in 2013 and the aim was to award players and Factions with "something" but that plan fell as new featured were worked on. And it just needs finishing up/cleaning up.
Re: [Suggestion] Showing Battle Beacon Victories
That's true, the scoreboard just shows who has the most gas money and time on their hands. Nobody really cares about making fields anymore. There are only a few players left and it's just used as a driving game. The desire to continue playing leaves most people. It's extremely monotonous. If you don't have a car then you can't compete on the scoreboard. So why even look at it? The scoreboard needs to change.
